Mental health issues affect about 84 million people across the EU. Refugees and migrants are particularly at risk of developing disorders due to stressors related to their migration process. However, they can also have great difficulties in accessing mental healthcare services, particularly when they do not speak the dominant language of their host country. Similarly, providing appropriate care can be more difficult when there is not a common language.
The topic of linguistic and cultural diversity in mental healthcare is central to the MentalHealth4All project. For instance, one of the outcomes of this project, co-financed by AMIF and involving nine European countries, is a multilingual digital information platform that aims to address and promote linguistic and cultural inclusivity in mental healthcare for migrants and refugees.
The MentalHealth4All Symposium aims to gather researchers, practitioners, experts, and policymakers for exchanging ideas on managing linguistic and cultural diversity in mental healthcare.
