VUB New Year's meeting & staff celebration 2026

On Monday 5 January 2026, we will celebrate the New Year together at the VUB New Year Gathering. The time and place? As tradition dictates: Aula Q, from 10:00 to 11:30.

The programme offers familiar elements, yet each time with a fresh twist:

• We honour colleagues celebrating 20, 30 or 40 years of service, as well as those who retired or became emeritus in 2025
• We enjoy music in all kinds of styles and from all generations, performed by VUB talent through The Sound of VUB, and by the rocking VUB All Star Band. Want to join the band? Let us know at Georgios.Patsis@vub.be. We’d love to have you!
• We listen to the New Year’s address by Rector Jan Danckaert, at a time when the VUB faces major challenges and budget cuts. How do we remain agile and future‑focused?

After the gathering, we’ll raise a glass to a healthy, happy and inspiring year at the staff reception in the Nelson Mandela Room.

Attendance at both the event and the reception is free, but registration is required to ensure everything is organised smoothly — and above all, sustainably and without waste.
