It’s high time we celebrate the open mind in grand style. And what better way to do so than with a spectacular event dedicated to it? So join us on Friday, 20th September 2024 at 16:00 at the prestigious Royal Circus, right in the heart of Brussels.
Let's unite in a festive statement against those who openly and constantly criticise anyone with an open mind and the courage to express it.
Prepare yourself for a sparkling evening with contributions by ao. Elisabeth Lucie Baeten, Dena Vahdani, Rudi Vranckx, Sara Leemans, Christophe Busch and Ruth Lasters and music by Ão, the Belgian band that made waves during the festival summer.
A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of a VUB honorary doctorate to the iconic former Humo figurehead, Guy Mortier, and the socially engaged Dutch actress, Femke Lakerveld.
In his opening speech, rector Jan Danckaert of our aptly named Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Free University Brussels) will passionately demonstrate how these genuine humanistic values are priceless for an open, tolerant society.
We are free to be free. And we will celebrate this extravagantly at the Celebration of the Open Mind.
