GreenDeal-NET (The European Green Deal: Governing the EU’s Transition towards Climate Neutrality and Sustainability) is a Jean Monnet Network co-funded by the EU's Erasmus+ programme. The Network aims to analyse the European Green Deal and the complex set of governance challenges it poses for achieving sustainability and climate neutrality. It seeks to deepen our understanding of what a fair and effective climate transition could entail by focusing on governance and by serving as a platform for collaboration and debate on research and teaching.
GreenDeal-NET brings together expertise on European climate and sustainability governance, offering a space for academic collaboration and exchange. It actively fosters engagement with policymakers and stakeholders interested in the EU’s transition to a low-carbon society.
The core network consists of 12 European universities and is coordinated by the Centre for Environment, Economy and Energy at the Brussels School of Governance, part of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). GreenDeal-NET also extends beyond its core partners, including an expanding number of institutions as Associate Members and individuals as expert contributors—both from Europe and beyond—while engaging with key actors involved in the EU’s climate and sustainability transition.
The Network builds on earlier collaborative initiatives, such as the COST Action on Innovations in Climate Governance (INOGOV) and the Jean Monnet Network “Governing the EU’s Climate and Energy Transition in Turbulent Times” (GOVTRAN).
GreenDeal-NET partners form the core consortium leading the project. They represent 12 leading universities across 11 European countries, dedicated to research and discussion on climate and sustainability transition.
