The Inauguration of the VSC New Tier-1 Supercomputer: A Milestone for Science and Innovation in Flanders

The Vrije Universiteit is delighted to invite you to the inauguration of the new VSC Tier-1 supercomputer of the Flemish Supercomputer Centre, a partnership between the Research Foundation – Flanders and the five Flemish university associations.

The inauguration will take place on Thursday 27 November at 18:00 pm at the Penta Data Centre in the Research Park in Zellik, marking an undeniable milestone in science and innovation in Flanders.

This state-of-the-art supercomputer will give researchers, knowledge institutions, and organisations in both the public and private sectors access to unprecedented computing power, enabling them to accelerate their research and innovation — particularly in areas such as sustainability, robotics, artificial intelligence, and advanced medical technology — and further strengthen Flanders’ competitive position.

Entirely powered by renewable energy, the supercomputer will also use its residual heat to partially heat buildings within the research park, contributing to the site’s CO₂-neutral multi‑energy grid.
