Synchrony and Beyond: Basic and advanced NAVA Strategies for NICU and PICU.
March 5-6, 2026

We are delighted to invite you to the Belgian Symposium on NAVA (Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist) as respiratory support strategy in the neonatal and paediatric intensive care setting. This symposium brings together physicians, nurses and ventilation specialists who are interested in advanced patient-ventilator interactions and/or already work with NAVA or are considering its implementation in the NICU/PICU.

Why attend?
In the NICU and PICU setting, the interaction between patient and ventilator is crucial — optimal synchronization can reduce the work of breathing, increase comfort, and potentially limit complications.

What you will gain:
During this two-day event you will:

  • Gain a clear overview of the principles of NAVA — how it works, why it matters, and how it differs from conventional ventilation modes.

  • Learn to interpret the Edi signal: understand what the diaphragm’s electrical activity tells us, how to read these values, and how to apply them in clinical practice.

  • Gain insight in advanced respiratory physiology and patient-ventilator interactions.

  • Explore practical implementation of both invasive NAVA and non-invasive NIV-NAVA in the neonatal/pediatric intensive care unit: step-by-step guidance, common pitfalls, and success factors.

  • Dive into real-life case studies: patient examples, set-up adjustments, monitoring and outcomes.

  • Participate in hands-on workshops: actively practice: setting up NAVA, monitoring patient-ventilator synchrony, adjusting settings, and translating theory into practice.

Who should attend?
This symposium is designed for healthcare professionals working in the NICU or PICU, including:

  • Physicians (neonatologists, paediatric intensivists)

  • Nurses specialising in neonatal/pediatric ventilation

  • Ventilation practitioners / respiratory therapists

Language / Organisation
Plenary sessions will be held in English. Workshops can be conducted in Dutch, French or English depending on the audience.
