About HOST
The House of Sustainable Transitions (HOST) brings together all sustainability research expertise at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). We are a transdisciplinary research platform uniting around 35 professors and 160+ scientists from 19 research groups, working together to tackle sustainability challenges.
Our expertise spans:
Five domains: Energy, Mobility, Economy, Food, Building
Four drivers: Climate, Biodiversity, Well-being, Justice
Four transversals:
- Analysing sustainability – Tools and methods to assess sustainability from multiple perspectives
- Mobilising people – Strategies to engage communities and stakeholders
- Governing the change – Governance frameworks from local to international levels
- Transformative learning – How people and organisations learn and shift towards sustainable practices
Why This Matters
Sustainability cannot be achieved by researchers alone. It requires collaboration across disciplines, sectors, and organisations. It demands creativity, openness, and a willingness to break down silos. That’s why HOST invites you to the Open House, to build the future together.
