Soul-Searching Democracy: Critical Conversations on Representative Disconnect" is organised by the international research consortium REDIRECT, funded by the European Union’s Horizon-Europe programme.

This scenario-building event aims to foster critical conversations with academics and promote closer collaborations among key stakeholders who are involved in bridging the gap between citizens and politics. To this end, we bring journalists, and members of political parties, civil society organizations and public administrations together to:

  • Diagnose the current state of representative disconnect in contemporary democracies in Europe,
  • Discuss the main drivers of representative disconnect,
  • Consider their impact, and consequences for the future of the democratic project,
  • Strengthen stakeholder roles in advancing and promoting democratic values.

Professor Mark Warren (University of British Columbia), esteemed expert on democratic innovations and citizen’s participation provides a keynote lecture on Democratic Innovation and Representative Democracy
