Call for abstracts open! Deadline: 1 April 2026
Join us in Brussels, the multilingual capital of Europe, for a one-day symposium on motor speech disorders in monolingual and multilingual speakers of under-represented languages. For the call for abstracts, we are seeking contributions from researchers working on motor speech disorders in languages and language combinations beyond those most studied and represented in scientific literature. We welcome abstracts on topics related to motor speech disorders (dysarthria, apraxia) and any other speech impairment (e.g., stuttering) in both child and adult populations.
Abstract submission guidelines:
- Abstract length: max. 250 words (excluding references)
- Abstract submission deadline: 1 April 2026
- Submit your abstract to: msdsymposiumvub@gmail.com
- The abstract should be anonymised and attached to the email as a .pdf. When submitting, please indicate the following in your email: the authors and their affiliations, preference for format (oral vs. poster).
Registration fee for the symposium: 50 euros (including coffee breaks and lunch). More information, including keynote speakers, available soon on this page!
Important! To facilitate travel planning and visa applications, the abstracts will be evaluated on a rolling basis within two weeks of submission. At that point, the authors will be informed whether their abstract has been accepted or rejected. Note that the type of presentation (oral/poster) will be decided only after the call deadline has passed.
We look forward to welcoming you in Brussels!
The symposium is being financed by funds from a VLIRUOS societal impact project, where researchers from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium (Stefanie Keulen, Teja Rebernik), Mohammed V University in Morocco (Karim Bensoukas, Fatima El Hamdi), and Laboratoire de Phonétique et Phonologie in France (Teja Rebernik, Anne Hermes, Rachid Ridouane) are joining forces to encourage the inclusion of Amazigh languages in research and speech therapy in Morocco.
