The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) officially opens PRISM (Psychology, Research and Innovations for Mental Health) and the new location of BRUCC (Brussels University Consultation Center).
With PRISM, in collaboration with BRUCC, VUB takes a new step towards a society‑wide approach to mental wellbeing that structurally connects science, practice and partnerships.
What is PRISM?
PRISM is an interdisciplinary initiative that translates research and innovation into practical solutions for mental wellbeing in society. PRISM starts from the premise that support is not limited to specialized care but also includes early detection, prevention, community support and stepped care: from low‑threshold support where possible to specialized pathways where needed.
What does PRISM focus on?
PRISM develops and consolidates tools and programmes that help organisations and professionals strengthen mental wellbeing, including:
- Prevention and early detection in schools, youth organisations and primary‑care settings
- Stepped support: a clear decision framework for “what works for whom, when,” with smooth referral to appropriate care
- Training and knowledge sharing for professionals (education, health, welfare), using evidence‑based materials and implementation support
- Innovation and digitalisation where these increase reach and accessibility (e.g. digital tools, blended care, monitoring and personalised support)
- Co‑creation with target groups and partners, ensuring interventions fit the realities of young people, families and professionals
Link with BRUCC
PRISM works closely with BRUCC, an outpatient centre for psychological services affiliated with VUB. BRUCC’s services are open to everyone, including VUB staff and students, who seek support for mild to moderate psychological complaints (primary care) through individual or group interventions and/or psychodiagnostic assessment.
The official opening will take place on 26/03/2026 at 13:30 (1u30 pm) at Pleinlaan 9 (ground floor), 1050 Ixelles, Brussels.
