Put your sustainability plan in motion with Factor 8

This bootcamp prepares you to take both yourself, your organization and the world around you on a walk toward a more sustainable world.

With Factor 8, you create a continuous movement in which plans and actions can continue to stimulate and reinforce each other.

The Climate Bootcamp will take place May 27-28, 2024, and is organized by the House of Sustainable Transitions. An interdisciplinary group at the VUB of 44 professors and more than 200 researchers joining forces and expertise to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable world.

During this two-day bootcamp we focus on the climate crisis and how we as individuals, organizations, companies or cities can accelerate the transition to a more sustainable world. Throughout this entire transition story, the Factor 8 (see figure) is the common thread. This is an iterative and stimulating process developed by Professor Cathy Macharis to guide organizations, individuals, companies and cities on their sustainability journey.

In the bootcamp, we'll get you ready by:

  • Upskilling: information hot off the press on climate impacts, solution directions and EU policy. Demonstrated with cases and space for Q&A with our experts.
  • Self-knowledge: discover how you yourself stand in the transition, what you personally can contribute, what changes you can bring about and what you think can bring about change. Is it through incremental change? Through systemic change? Or in some other way?
  • Skills (based on the Factor 8 model) that you can use to take yourself, your organization and the world around it in the loop toward a more sustainable world.

You will learn to develop a concrete plan of action and move from awareness to action in 8 steps.

Nine experts are ready to guide you and go deeper into the main impact sectors: energy, food, mobility and buildings. In addition, climate scientist Professor Wim Thiery will give a current overview of the climate issue while communication expert Koen Thewissen will give more interpretation on how we get people moving, both systemically and individually.
