Faculty Welcome: your introduction to your faculty

The faculty your programme belongs to will welcome you warmly. During the faculty welcome session, you will:

  • Learn what it means to be a student at the VUB – and within your faculty

  • Receive explanations about the schedule, learning platform, and typical VUB terms you’ll encounter almost daily

  • Get valuable tips and tricks from experienced students

  • Find out what support is available to you

  • Learn about student life at VUB and what it has to offer

Programme-specific information session

Some degree programmes offer a tailored session where you will:

  • Meet your programme and some of your professors

  • Receive specific information essential for a smooth and successful start

  • Discover what the first few weeks of your studies will look like

Ready, Set, Go!

In smaller groups, you’ll explore what to expect as a student at VUB:

  • What skills do you need to get started successfully?

  • What challenges might you face at university – and how can you deal with them?

  • What can you do if you find things difficult at any point?

Compulsory assessments

First of all: don’t worry! These assessments are here to support your growth from the very beginning. Be sure to bring your own laptop.

Self-assessment: discover your starting level
This self-assessment helps you understand yourself as a student – your starting competences, strengths and areas for improvement. If the results show that you might benefit from additional help, you’ll immediately get tailored advice, materials, and guidance. You don’t need to prepare – just bring your laptop.

Academic Dutch language test
Are you starting a Dutch-language degree? Then we’ll test your academic Dutch skills.
No preparation needed – just bring your laptop.

Programme-specific diagnostic tests
Are you enrolled in a degree within the Faculty of Engineering (IR), Physical Education and Physiotherapy (LK), or Sciences and Bioengineering (WE)? Then you’ll also take a maths and/or chemistry and/or physics diagnostic test.

For students in the Faculty of Sciences, the maths test is especially important – your result determines which elective you may take and which group you’ll join for classes. So participation is essential.

No need to bring anything except writing materials. A calculator or periodic table is not required.
