Translating Myself and Others
In his keynote, Jan Wilm reflects on his practice of literary translation from English into German while also drawing on his experience with Norwegian, Spanish, and Italian texts. He explores how working simultaneously as writer and translator shapes his Janus-faced approach, drawing parallels with the poetics of writers as diverse as Jorge Luis Borges, Samuel Beckett, J. M. Coetzee, and Lydia Davis. He will also discuss his practice of self-translation between German and English before addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by AI and a rapidly changing literary marketplace.

Translation Workshop French > Dutch
In a traditional literary translation workshop, each participant translates the same source text. They compare the different versions and the varying approaches then form the core of the workshop. In this translation workshop, participants translate different source texts. As well as gaining translation experience, the primary aim here is to introduce participants to the work of Georges Perec (1936–1982), one of the most original, witty and exciting writers of the twentieth century, and to one of his most dizzying writing projects, the so-called ‘Lieux’ project.
